The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald This was another case of seeing the movie before reading the book. At first I was hesitant to actually read the book, because the movie is one of my favorites, but it was so close that it's actually surprising!
The writing was a little flowery and over the top at times, but the heart of the story stays the same, and I find myself depressed again at the hopelessness of the situation. The characters are all appalling to different degrees, yet you can't help but feel for them. Even though I know how the story goes, I couldn't help but wish that it would be different... and yet, I wonder if Gatsby and Daisy would have lived happily ever after if they did end up together. I can't help but think that Gatsby's dream of her might have fallen short eventually... maybe Daisy understood that and that's why she stayed with Tom? I still think she could have at least have gone to the funeral... but I've decided to stop hating on her, so no more resentment here...
